Energizing with Earth's Natural Gems

By Jamaree

What is your source of power, your source of energy that keeps you going? Do you have one primary source, or do you have many influences that keep you going?

Perhaps your source is your specific passion that you grind all your free time through, or perhaps you have little pieces of inspiration, joy, and energy that get you through the day. We have our basic fundamentals, such as good rest, nutrition, and health, for ensuring we can function through our days. But what additional elements, enjoyments even, do you use to boost your energy in different ways? Do you ever reflect on your habitual energy boosters and which others out there would work exponentially better for you?

It's mid-day and you still have a couple hours left of the work to do, but you're drained, feeling that afternoon drag. How do you boost your energy a bit? Play a little music? Many people relax, unwind, get motivated or pumped up to music. Some draw, do a puzzle, get up and take a walk, maybe even go outside, gaze up at the clouds or the starry night sky. My hubby plays on his hand pan. He gets into a rhythmic meditational trance of sorts when he plays; and I reap sweet benefits, because the music is such a calming blend of groovy and zen.

Me? I like to take a few minutes in my journal, do a body stretch, grab an apple, get in some puppy play... but if I can, I LOVE to I plug in... to my world of gems. I picture getting up to my elbows in mud making mud pies, but (thankfully) it's more like piling a mountain of gemstone beads all over my desk and giddily start playing, designing, and finessing a bracelet or necklace, some wearable artistic expression of Mother Earth's magical treasures.

What's the whole thing about gemstones, you may ask? There are many theories and opinions all over the spectrum around gemstones and crystals, their energy, metaphysical healing properties, chakra alignments, whether they work, how they work, testimonies, whether it's hoo ha, so on and so forth.
In our article Earth's Natural Energies - A World of Crystals and Gemstones, we traverse over historical fascinations with gemstones across civilizations, as well as how they're made over millions of years in our beautiful, natural earth. What you embrace is up to you. Here's what sticks with me. Gemstones and crystals are organically made from the churning, forging, and transforming of natural elements into these unique, mesmerizing memorabilia. As such, they are precious packages containing time capsules of metals, ores, stone, fossils, with remnants of the earth, fire, water, and air, all encased in these miniature kaleidoscopic vaults.

I can gaze into the intricate caverns, valleys, rivers, and layers of landscapes of gemstones all day. The translucent stones are especially hypnotic, such as Citrine, Amethyst, Smokey Quartz, and Garden Quartz. But then the opaque stones (Lapis Lazuli, Chrysocolla, Turquoise, Coral, Kyanite, and Jade) also boast robust swirls of colors and textures. This is why kids young and old are drawn in by stones, shells, and other artifacts found in the forest, on the beach, or in the desert. They captivate us with their striking beauty, and we want to keep them as mementos of our special experiences.
This is what I think about when designing a bracelet. What mood are we trying to strike? Colors often affect our moods, as advertisers, marketers, and color designers have known for decades. Colors combined with the gorgeous elements within the stones innately take you to some place in your mind, whether it's a peaceful beach, a snowy mountaintop, a babbling brook in the forest, or a desert sunset.

Amazingly, gemstones naturally come in the entire vibrant array of colors, and you can combine them however you like.

Though some combinations of gemstones are said to cancel out some of each other's energies, for the most part, they compliment each other quite well. While each stone has specific metaphysical properties, they generally align with color mood effects, so it's easy to remember.

White and cream gemstones are often associated with tranquility, hope, purity of thought, and inner balance.

If you were to close your eyes, and visualize clean, white snow on trees, do you feel quiet and peaceful? Yeah, me too. White shaded stones are wonderful for meditation and reflection. Some dreamy white stones include Moonstone, White Jade, Quartz, Opal, River Stone, Agate, and Howlite.

Black and dark gray stones are powerfully protective, and help shift negative thoughts to positive.

It's so clear why police and security often wear black, as it's a color of strength and protection. The velvety night sky wraps around you and protects your valuable thoughts. Fantastic black gemstones include Onyx, Obsidian, Spinel, Tourmaline, Lava Stone, Hematite, and Shungite.

Brown and tan hued stones are grounding, help us feel connected to nature, also providing comfort and a sense of security.

Quiet and steady trees tower over you and surround you like a wall of guardians. Some brown gemstones are Tiger's Eye, Bronzite, Tiger Iron, Smokey Quartz, and a slew of Jaspers.

Yellow makes us think of the bright sun in the sky, bold-colored sunflowers, and dancing butterflies, invoking a sense of joy, optimism, and abundance.

Twirl and fly in the golden sun rays of your day. Glorious yellow gemstones include Citrine, Amber, Yellow Jade, Rutilated Quartz, Crazy Lace Agate, Bumblebee Jasper, and Honey Calcite.

Red and orange are associated with courage, stamina, and creativity.

It takes courage to venture away from your habitual patterns and decisions, to reach for creativity and different thinking. These colors are reminiscent of fiery forces igniting you from within. Stones in the red and orange range include Red Coral, Carnelian, Amber, Poppy Jasper, Ruby, Sunstone, Agate, and Garnet.

Green is a direct connection to all things nature, as you can feel and almost smell the leafy plants blooming around you.

Layers and textures of gorgeous greenery instantaneously refresh you, as you  feeling the grass cushion your feet. Green (also pink) colors are associated with healing, harmony, wellness, and nurturing self-love. There are a ton of gorgeous green gemstones, such as Jade, Rhyolite, Malachite, Bloodstone, Moss Agate, Prehnite, Peridot, Chrysoprase, and outer worldly Moldavite.

Shades of blue are vivid yet calming, like the vast skies or the magnificent oceans.

With a calm mind, your thoughts become clear, enabling other associations with blue, namely confidence, intellect, and communication. Some blue gemstones include Aquamarine, Sodalite, Amazonite, Kyanite, Apatite, Chalcedony, and Lapis Lazuli.

Rich purples were worn by royalty, believed to provide a connection with spirituality, guidance, and the heavens.

Allow a warm, purple sunset wash over you with a soothing, and harmonizing tone. Some brilliant purple gemstones include Amethyst, Lepidolite, Chaorite, Sugulite, Lavendar Quartz, Tourmaline, and Fluorite.

When designing bracelets, I start with what type of energy we're looking to build.

Confidence in a group setting? Calm mind in the middle of a storm? Enduring playful energy? Creative thinking cap? Let's say we're building confidence in a group setting. Stones to consider include Carnelian, Bloodstone, Tiger's Eye, Black Tourmaline, Sodalite, and Garnet. We want to use a combination and create a look that fits your style. That's the really fun part. What tone and mood do you want the bracelet to set for you?

Imagine yourself a crowded room, but instead of feeling cramped or the pressure of having all eyes on you, you're able to breathe, you feel an invisible barrier of protection, your thoughts are clear, and each inhalation brings more confidence.

You feel like you're standing under a clear, starry night sky, in a quiet, peaceful forest... deep blue hues (Sodalite), sparks of black (Tourmaline), hunter green (Bloodstone) and woodsy brown (Tiger's Eye), with touch of dark red (Garnet). This is just the first phase, because then we really get downtown artsy with the design.

While one of my sources of power is creating energy bracelets, perhaps a source for you can be wearing an energy bracelet.

Embracing your uniqueness and expressing yourself authentically isn't just about creativity – it's a holistic journey toward living your best life. Through avenues like gemstone jewelry, we adorn ourselves with more than just beauty; we tap into the earth's energy to uplift our spirits and enrich our lives. Whether it's donning amethyst for stress relief, sodalite for mental clarity, tiger's eye for inner strength, or obsidian for protection, each piece serves as a powerful reminder of our individual essence and our deep connection to the universe.
